Astro_22 By D.K. Wilkinson
Astro_22 as released is a starter program which accurately
calculates the position of the planets, cusps and zodiac positions
to within 30 seconds of arc. I intend to increase the usefulness
of the program to eventually cover all aspects of the subject
which will appeal to professional as well as novice astrologers
not wishing to pay £200+ for a decent package. Several add-on
modules are already available for release and details of these
can be found in the pull-down GEM Menu against Astro_22., and the
text file 'ADD_ONS.DOC'.
The program is simple to use and is very fast. To calculate a
chart, click on the 'New Chart' option from the menu and enter the
information as prompted. Latitude and longitude positions for any
place of birth can be obtained from a decent atlas. Zone Time
is hours +/- Greenwich time. For the UK this entry will be +00
Hrs. Those who have no knowledge of astrology will be able to
find out what their particular chart means by borrowing a book
from the public library and spending a hour or so reading up on
the subject. The hard part of astrology, namely calculating the
chart, is done by Astro_22.
The more experienced astrologers will immediately recognise the
potential of Astro_22 and will derive great pleasure from its use.
The shaded menu options are disabled, intended for use with the
add-on modules.
I trust this program will be of use to those with an
interest in the subject of astrology and suggestions for
improvement or modification will be gratefully received and
implemented wherever possible.
The colour palette is pre set up for colour monitors
using the accessory "CONTROL.ACC". Each has his own preference of
suitable colours for displayiny the different chart items
therefore, I have not program controlled all the main colours so
that the user can experiment with the control panel to find
the most suitable mix relevent to himself or herself. How to use
the control panel is explained in the Atari Handbook. The colour
setting can be saved by exiting Astro_22 and then saving the
desktop.
The astrological symbols were designed using a copy of the
excellent Fontkit program by Jeremy Hughes. The accessory
'Fontselect', also by jeremy Hughes, is used by Astro_22 to load
the screen fonts at boot up. If you have a copy of Fontkit, feel
free to experiment with the supplied symbols found in the 'Fonts'
Çfolder. If you do not have a copy, most PD Companies can supply
you with it at a modest cost.
